Chapter 62 Al-Jumua 11 verses, Madina www.eQuran.org


1. Whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth glorifies Allah, the King (of everything), the Holy, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.


2. He it is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves, reciting to them His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this Quran, Islamic laws and Islamic jurisprudence) and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship, etc. of Prophet Muhammad SAW). And verily, they had been before in mainfest error;


3. And He has sent him (Prophet Muhammad SAW) also to others among them (Muslims) who have not yet joined them (but they will come). And He (Allah) is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.


4. That is the Grace of Allah, which He bestows on whom He wills. And Allah is the Owner of Mighty Grace.


5. The likeness of those who were entrusted with the (obligation of the) Taurat (Torah) (i.e. to obey its commandments and to practise its legal laws), but who subsequently failed in those (obligations), is as the likeness of a donkey who carries huge burdens of books (but understands nothing from them). How bad is the example (or the likeness) of people who deny the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah. And Allah guides not the people who are Zalimoon (polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers, etc.).


6. Say (O Muhammad SAW): "O you Jews! If you pretend that you are friends of Allah, to the exclusion of (all) other mankind, then long for death if you are truthful."


7. But they will never long for it (death), because of what (deeds) their hands have sent before them! And Allah knows well the Zalimoon (polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers, etc.).


8. Say (to them): "Verily, the death from which you flee will surely meet you, then you will be sent back to (Allah), the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will tell you what you used to do."


9. O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the Salat (prayer) on the day of Friday (Jumuah prayer), come to the remembrance of Allah (Jumuah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salat (prayer)) and leave off business (and every other thing), that is better for you if you did but know!


10. Then when the (Jumuah) Salat (prayer) is finished, you may disperse through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allah (by working, etc.), and remember Allah much, that you may be successful.


11. And when they see some merchandise or some amusement (beating of Tambur (drum) etc.) they disperse headlong to it, and leave you (Muhammad SAW) standing (while delivering Jumuahs religious talk (Khutbah)). Say "That which Allah has is better than any amusement or merchandise! And Allah is the Best of providers."

Chapter 58 Al-Mujadila 22 verses, Madina www.eQuran.org


1. Indeed Allah has heard the statement of her (Khaulah bint Thalabah) that disputes with you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning her husband (Aus bin AsSamit), and complains to Allah. And Allah hears the argument between you both. Verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Seer.


2. Those among you who make their wives unlawful (Az-Zihar ÇáÙåÇÑ) to them by saying to them "You are like my mothers back." They cannot be their mothers. None can be their mothers except those who gave them birth. And verily, they utter an ill word and a lie. And verily, Allah is Oft-Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving.


3. And those who make unlawful to them (their wives) (by Az-Zihar ÇáÙåÇÑ) and wish to free themselves from what they uttered, (the penalty) in that case (is) the freeing of a slave before they touch each other. That is an admonition to you (so that you may not return to such an ill thing). And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.


4. And he who finds not (the money for freeing a slave) must fast two successive months before they both touch each other. And for him who is unable to do so, he should feed sixty of Miskeen (poor). That is in order that you may have perfect Faith in Allah and His Messenger. These are the limits set by Allah. And for disbelievers, there is a painful torment.


5. Verily, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) will be disgraced, as those before them (among the past nation), were disgraced. And We have sent down clear Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). And for the disbelievers is a disgracing torment.


6. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all together (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) and inform them of what they did. Allah has kept account of it, while they have forgotten it. And Allah is Witness over all things.


7. Have you not seen that Allah knows whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth? There is no Najwa (secret counsel) of three, but He is their fourth (with His Knowledge, while He Himself is over the Throne, over the seventh heaven), nor of five but He is their sixth (with His Knowledge), not of less than that or more, but He is with them (with His Knowledge) wheresoever they may be; and afterwards on the Day of Resurrection, He will inform them of what they did. Verily, Allah is the All-Knower of everything.


8. Have you not seen those who were forbidden to hold secret counsels, and afterwards returned to that which they had been forbidden, and conspired together for sin and wrong doing and disobedience to the Messenger (Muhammad SAW ). And when they come to you, they greet you with a greeting wherewith Allah greets you not, and say within themselves: "Why should Allah punish us not for what we say?" Hell will be sufficient for them, they will burn therein, and worst indeed is that destination!


9. O you who believe! When you hold secret counsel, do it not for sin and wrong-doing, and disobedience towards the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) but do it for Al-Birr (righteousness) and Taqwa (virtues and piety); and fear Allah unto Whom you shall be gathered.


10. Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Shaitan (Satan), in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allah permits, and in Allah let the believers put their trust .


11. O you who believe! When you are told to make room in the assemblies, (spread out and) make room. Allah will give you (ample) room (from His Mercy). And when you are told to rise up (for prayers, Jihad (holy fighting in Allahs Cause), or for any other good deed), rise up. Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do.


12. O you who believe! When you (want to) consult the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) in private, spend something in charity before your private consultation. That will be better and purer for you. But if you find not (the means for it), then verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.


13. Are you afraid of spending in charity before your private consultation (with him)? If then you do it not, and Allah has forgiven you, then (at least) perform As-Salat (IqamatasSalat) and give Zakat and obey Allah (i.e. do all what Allah and His Prophet SAW order you to do). And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.


14. Have you (O Muhammad SAW) not seen those (hypocrites) who take for friends a people upon whom is the Wrath of Allah (i.e. Jews)? They are neither of you (Muslims) nor of them (Jews), and they swear to a lie while they know.


15. Allah has prepared for them a severe torment. Evil indeed is that which they used to do.


16. They have made their oaths a screen (for their evil actions). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, so they shall have a humiliating torment.


17. Their children and their wealth will avail them nothing against Allah. They will be (the) dwellers of the Fire, to dwell therein forever.


18. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all together (for their account), then they will swear to Him as they swear to you (O Muslims). And they think that they have something (to stand upon). Verily, they are liars!


19. Shaitan (Satan) has overtaken them. So he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Shaitan (Satan). Verily, it is the party of Shaitan (Satan) that will be the losers!


20. Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), they will be among the lowest (most humiliated).


21. Allah has decreed: "Verily! It is I and My Messengers who shall be the victorious." Verily, Allah is All-Powerful, All-Mighty.


22. You (O Muhammad SAW) will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW ), even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Rooh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And We will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily, it is the Party of Allah that will be the successful.

Chapter 59 Al-Hashr 24 verses, Madina www.eQuran.org


1. Whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth glorifies Allah. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.


2. He it is Who drove out the disbelievers among the people of the Scripture (i.e. the Jews of the tribe of Banee An-Nadeer) from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think that they would get out. And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allah! But Allahs (Torment) reached them from a place whereof they expected it not, and He cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their own dwellings with their own hands and the hands of the believers. Then take admonition, O you with eyes (to see).


3. And had it not been that Allah had decreed exile for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world, and in the Hereafter theirs shall be the torment of the Fire.


4. That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW). And whosoever opposes Allah, then verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.


5. What you (O Muslims) cut down of the palm-trees (of the enemy), or you left them standing on their stems, it was by Leave of Allah, and in order that He might disgrace the Fasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).


6. And what Allah gave as booty (Fai) to His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from them, for which you made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry. But Allah gives power to His Messengers over whomsoever He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things.


7. What Allah gave as booty (Fai) to His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from the people of the townships, - it is for Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), the kindred (of Messenger Muhammad SAW), the orphans, AlMasakin (the poor), and the wayfarer, in order that it may not become a fortune used by the rich among you. And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it) , and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.


8. (And there is also a share in this booty) for the poor emigrants, who were expelled from their homes and their property, seeking Bounties from Allah and to please Him. And helping Allah (i.e. helping His religion) and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW). Such are indeed the truthful (to what they say);-


9. And those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them, and have no jealousy in their breasts for that which they have been given (from the booty of Banee An-Nadeer), and give them (emigrants) preference over themselves, even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, such are they who will be the successful.


10. And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.


11. Have you (O Muhammad SAW) not observed the hypocrites who say to their friends among the people of the Scripture who disbelieve: "(By Allah) If you are expelled, we (too) indeed will go out with you, and we shall never obey any one against you, and if you are attacked (in fight), we shall indeed help you." But Allah is Witness, that they verily, are liars.


12. Surely, if they (the Jews) are expelled, never will they (hypocrites) go out with them, and if they are attacked, they will never help them. And if they do help them, they (hypocrites) will turn their backs, so they will not be victorious.


13. Verily, you (believers in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) are more awful as a fear in their (Jews of Banee An-Nadeer) breasts than Allah. That is because they are a people who comprehend not (the Majesty and Power of Allah).


14. They fight not against you even together, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls. Their enmity among themselves is very great. You would think they were united, but their hearts are divided, that is because they are a people who understand not.


15. They are like their immediate predecessors (the Jews of Banee Qainooqa, who suffered), they tasted the evil result of their conduct, and (in the Hereafter, there is) for them a painful torment;-


16. (Their allies deceived them) like Shaitan (Satan), when he says to man: "Disbelieve in Allah." But when (man) disbelieves in Allah, Shaitan (Satan) says: "I am free of you, I fear Allah, the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!"


17. So the end of both will be that they will be in the Fire, abiding therein. Such is the recompense of the Zalimoon (i.e. polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in Allah and in His Oneness, etc.).


18. O you who believe! Fear Allah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do .


19. And be not like those who forgot Allah (i.e. became disobedient to Allah) and He caused them to forget their ownselves, (let them to forget to do righteous deeds). Those are the Fasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).


20. Not equal are the dwellers of the Fire and the dwellers of the Paradise. It is the dwellers of Paradise that will be successful.


21. Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect .


22. He is Allah, than Whom there is La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen (open). He is the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.


23. He is Allah than Whom there is La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) the King, the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! (High is He) above all that they associate as partners with Him.


24. He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong the Best Names . All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

Chapter 2 - Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow)
Ayahs 118-121

Translation:

The ignorant ask: ‘Why does God not speak to us or give us a sign?’ The same demand was made by those before them: their hearts are all alike. But to those whose faith is firm, We have already revealed Our signs. We have sent you with truth as a bearer of good tidings and a warner: you shall not be questioned about the people of hell. You will please neither the Christians nor the Jews unless you follow their faith. Say: ‘The guidance of God is the only guidance. And if, after all the knowledge you have been given, you yield to their desires, there shall be none to help or protect you from the wrath of God. Those to whom we have given the Book, and who read it as it ought to be read, truly believe in it; those who deny it shall assuredly be the losers.

Tafsir (Commentary):

All those whom God has sent to preach truth on earth have been confronted with a particular form of reaction. “If you are God’s envoy,” people say to them, “why are you not blessed with great worldly treasures?” These people can only think in worldly terms themselves, so they expect prophets to come up to their materialistic standards. They cannot conceive of someone who is not endowed with worldly grandeur being God’s messenger. This is the reason the prophets of God have had to face opposition throughout the ages. How, people think, could a great God, whose kingdom extends from the earth to the furthest expanse of the heavens, have chosen such an ordinary person as His messenger? The greatness of God Himself is indeed incorporated in the lives and teachings of His prophets, but in a spiritual, not a material, form. The prophets’ every word and deed are based on truth, and are manifestations of God’s signs. But such signs cannot be seen, so they do not become a part of the consciousness of materialistic people. Their minds are moulded in such a manner that they acknowledge only tangible, visible signs of greatness; the invisible, but intensely meaningful signs that God gives His prophets mean nothing to them.

In ancient times the Jews and Christians had been the true followers of divinely revealed religion on earth. When they went into decline, however, their religion took on a communal rather than a divine form: piety lay in belonging to their community and impiety in being separate from it; their sole criterion for judging between truth and falsehood was a person’s relation to his own community. This communal, sectarian attitude prevented them from accepting true, unadulterated religion when it came to them. True religion can be accepted only by those who are alive to their true, human natures. Those who have forsaken natural religion for artificial dogmas cannot be expected to respond when they are roused to the call of their own true natures.
Chapter 2 - Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow)
Ayahs 122-124

Translation:

Children of Israel, remember My favour which I have bestowed upon you and that I exalted you among the nations. Fear the day when no soul avails another; when neither ransom nor intercession shall be accepted from it, nor any help be given it. When his Lord put Abraham to the proof with certain commandments, and Abraham fulfilled them, He said: ‘I have appointed you a leader of mankind.’ ‘And what of my descendants?’ asked Abraham. ‘My covenant,’ said He, ‘does not apply to the evil-doers.

Tafsir (Commentary):

The Children of Israel were selected by God to perform a very special task: they were to call other nations to God, impressing on them the fact that they were answerable to Him for their actions. God sent innumerable prophets among them to help and guide them in the performance of this task—Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, Zakaria and John the Baptist, to name just a few. After a while, however, the Children of Israel went into decline. They took their privileged position, which was in fact due solely to the lofty task that had been entrusted to them, to be an indication of ethnic superiority. They thus lost their right to be representatives of divine religion on earth. The coming of the Arab Prophet signified the replacement of the Children of Israel by the Children of Ishmael as God’s favoured people: it was they who were chosen to carry on the task of communicating God’s word to other nations of the world. Those among the Children of Israel who were truly pious and God fearing soon realized that the teachings of the Prophet of Islam came to him from God. They recognized that the word he preached emanated from the same source as had inspired the Prophets before him. Those who denied him were acting solely out of prejudice: they refused to accept that any other nation besides their own could be selected for God’s favor.

These people were warned, through the Arab Prophet, that in the next world the only things of any value would be true faith borne out by earnest actions. In this world one person is able to bear the burden of another; sometimes intercession is accepted; sometimes one can free oneself by giving compensation; sometimes a helper is at hand to see one through a difficult situation. In the next world, however, none of these things will be of any avail. There, God’s justice will apply to one and all equally for no ethnic group holds a monopoly over the next world. Take the example of the Prophet Abraham, forefather of both the Arabs and the Jews. He was granted leadership of mankind only after he had undergone very severe tests, and had shown himself to be faithful and true to God under all circumstances. What God had demanded of Abraham was the supreme sacrifice—his son’s life—and when God finally intervened before Abraham could actually kill his own son, it was because Abraham had demonstrated his perfect willingness to make any sacrifice demanded of him by God, no matter how great or how terrible. The rule that applied to Abraham applied to every generation: only those who proved themselves worthy would be granted a share in God’s covenant; those who did not would meet the same fate as any other offenders in God’s sight, regardless of the nation to which they belonged. One who was willing to make soul-searing sacrifices for God’s cause showed his utmost dedication to it: it was only just and natural, then, that he should become the leader of his people.

Chapter 2 - Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow)
Ayahs 97-101

Translation:

Say: ‘Whoever is an enemy of Gabriel?’ (Who has by God’s grace revealed to you the Qur’an as a guide and joyful tidings for the faithful, confirming previous scriptures) ‘Whoever is an enemy of God, His angels, or His apostles, or of Gabriel or Michael, will surely find that God is the enemy of unbelievers.’ We have sent down to you clear revelations: none will deny them except the evil-doers. Whenever they make a covenant, must some of them cast it aside? Most of them are unbelievers. And now that an apostle has come to them from God confirming their own Scriptures, some of those to whom the Scriptures were given cast off the Book of God behind their backs, as though they knew nothing.

Tafsir (Commentary):

Owing to their own rebelliousness the Jews were meted out severe punishments in ancient times. It was God’s way to warn them of these punishments, and such warnings came to them through the prophets, who were acting on the words of the Archangel Gabriel. The moral was that people had to follow God’s commandments; if they persisted in a sinful life, they would be exposing themselves to His wrath. But, instead of heeding these admonitions, the Jews came to regard Gabriel as their enemy, because it had always been he who gave prior warning through the prophets of their impending doom. Consequently, when the prophet Muhammad proclaimed that he was receiving his revelation through Gabriel, they said: “So, our old enemy Gabriel. That explains why the scriptures, the birthright of the Israelites, are being conveyed to a person belonging to another tribe.”

Now angels, being the rarefied creatures that they are, do not hold grudges against ordinary mortals; they descend to earth only by divine command in order to carry out the tasks assigned to them by their Creator—in this case, the revelation of the Scriptures to the prophet whom God Himself had chosen. Given the clear proofs that the Arab Prophet had had the same revelation communicated to him as had been received by Abraham, Moses and Jesus, and that it tallied with the previous divine scriptures, there were no grounds for the Jews to reject the divine message. Their reacting in such a senseless manner was the result of their having lead insincere, unrestricted lives, which had become dominated by self-interest, empty convention and racial prejudice. Religion had been adhered to only on a superficial level, just to keep up the pretence that the Jews were, in fact, faithfully treading the path of God.

Now those who merely make an outward show of following their religion are inevitably loath to respond in right earnest to the proclamation of true, unadulterated religion. Having built an edifice of national pride on the basis of their own private version of their religion, they cannot entertain the message of pure humility that true religion conveys: they view it as a threat to their worldly honour and status. It is common for people to resort to the use of religious terminology, and to be very correct in the outward forms of ritual in order to give public proof of their faith. But their words and their actions, being hollow and meaningless, bear no relation whatsoever to true faith and piety.

Translation:

And they follow what the devils tell of Solomon’s kingdom. Not that Solomon disbelieved; it is the devils who disbelieved, teaching men witchcraft. And (they follow) what was revealed to the angels, Harut and Marut, in Babylon. Yet they would never instruct any man without saying to him beforehand: ‘We have been sent to tempt you; do not renounce your faith.’ From these two, they learn that by which they can create discord between husband and wife, although they can harm none with what they learn except by God’s leave. They learn, indeed, what harms them and does not profit them; yet they know full well that anyone who chose it would have no share in the life to come. Vile is that for which they have sold their souls, if they but knew it. Had they embraced the Faith and kept from evil, far better for them would His reward have been, if they but knew it.

Tafsir (Commentary):

Salvation in the Hereafter can be achieved only by virtue of righteous actions. It is when the People of the Book seek to achieve it, without actually doing anything to earn it, that they go astray. The real aim of the Scriptures is to convey this message—to call on man to earn God’s blessings by leading a righteous life. As long as people maintain their moral and spiritual vitality, they respond positively to this call, applying the teachings of the

Scriptures to their practical lives. When they suffer a decline, however, they search for less exacting methods of earning salvation. It is easier, for instance, to write down a few verses of the Holy Scriptures, or recite them, than to actually practice their teachings. So that is what people tend to do. The Scriptures, which are meant to form a part of one’s life, are reduced to a kind of talismanic textbook from which magical prescriptions are prepared and sorcerers’ spells cast. And they do not only see this as a way of reaching Heaven; they come to regard it as a path to worldly success also. Veneration of the souls of dead saints, for example, becomes a solution to all their problems. This mentality then finds expression on a social level. It serves as the very basis for a people’s efforts to achieve political and religious reform. What can come only from conscientious and committed struggle, they seek to obtain by magical schemes.

When superstition and apathy set in in the declining Jewish race, certain individuals exploited this tendency in order to make commercial capital, by providing success-seekers with magical prescriptions. To make their business flourish, these unscrupulous profiteers attributed their art to Solomon, saying that the extraordinary powers he exercised over the spirits and winds were, in fact, based on his knowledge of magic, and claimed that this knowledge had been passed on to them by the spirits. This claim to authority accounted in great measure for the rapid spread of sorcery, which soon developed into a highly popular art among the Jews.

When angels came to Lot’s people, who were practicing homosexuals, they came in the garb of handsome boys in order to test them. Similarly, angels were sent to the Jews in Babylon in the garb of holy-men to teach them magic, at the same time making it quite clear that they were only putting the Jews to the test, this being a form of knowledge that should not be practised. But the Jews took no heed of this warning: they practised magic with great fervour and even used it for illicit ends.

Translation:

Abraham and Ishmael laid the foundations of the House with this prayer: ‘Accept this from us, Lord. You are the One that hears all and knows all. Lord, make us submissive to You; make of our descendants a nation that will submit to You. Teach us our rites of worship and turn to us mercifully; You are forgiving and merciful. Lord, send forth to them an apostle of their own people who shall declare to them your signs, and instruct them in the Book and in wisdom, and purify them of sin. You are the Mighty, the Wise One.

Tafsir (Commentary):

God ordained that the focal point of the worldwide Islamic mission should be in Hijaz: Mecca was to be the axis on which the struggle for truth on earth would rest. Almighty God chose Abraham and his family to establish this centre and make provision for its functioning. The words which Abraham and Ishmael (on whom be peace) uttered when they were building the house of God in Mecca were, in addition to being supplications to God, an indication of their unhesitating fidelity to God’s scheme of things. It is prayer of this kind that is most pleasing to God, so He accepted their prayer and a permanent fountain of spiritual life for the whole world, gushed forth from the barren desert of Arabia. The name of this fountain was Islam. As for the people who inhabited this desert, the offspring of Ishmael, God made them enthusiastic proponents of the Islamic cause: He enabled them to propagate His word far and wide. Through them, he informed mankind how they could please their Lord, so that He might turn to them in mercy. It was among the Children of Ishmael that the final prophet was sent, and for the first time in history, the entire prophetic pattern was recorded in history for posterity, so that future generations could follow it.

In the role of God’s messenger, the prophet’s first task is to interpret God’s signs, so that mankind may be brought to a proper understanding of their Creator’s power and glory. The signs of God are everywhere in the universe, but without guidance, man is blind to them. The prophet, with the wisdom which comes to him from enlightenment, and his awareness of God’s immanence in His creation throughout the universe, shares his divine insight with the human beings so that they may mould their lives in accordance with God’s will. He encourages his followers to join him on that sublime level of consciousness where truth is fully appreciated and falsehood is seen for what it is, where one is pleased only with what is pleasing to God. The wisdom of the prophets is equaled only by their purity, a state from which all incompatible elements have been banished, so that in a propitious atmosphere, they may reach their ultimate natural perfection. Their final aim is to fashion souls that are totally absorbed in the love of God; who serve no other besides Him; who have minds untarnished by complexes and prejudices; who derive their spiritual nourishment form the world around them—something which God Himself has made available to all without exception.
